Why do people have reflexology
1. to manage pain associated with an existing condition
2. to relax / restore the body and quieten the mind
Also, if you’re pregnant or know someone who is, reflexology seems to be highly beneficial for feet in a new supporting role.
It is not known yet, exactly, how reflexology helps manage pain. That is being addressed, but for now, we continue to focus on the evidence that it does. This 2013 Daily Telegraph article, ‘Reflexology as effective as pain killers’, covers the results of a clinical trial and is worth a read. There is also a great deal of anecdotal evidence available on the internet, which certainly chimes with my own experiences, as both patient and practitioner.
If you are in pain, or want to manage symptoms related to any number of conditions, such as arthritis, back pain, or sleep disorders then please get in touch and book a treatment.
Depending on your data source, stress is now directly or indirectly responsible for 85% of all visits to medical professionals. On a more practical level, it is also not a particularly pleasant way to live, impacting quality of life for all concerned. I don’t imagine this applies to that many people in the Algarve, unless you have a particularly unruly mind, but it may be of interest to visitors. I have clients who work in the UK and take periodic mini-breaks to relax and recharge. They might only have a few days here, and their reflexology treatment reduces the time period between relaxing and being relaxed; a meaningful distinction.
Also of note, the most common piece of feedback I receive, relates to the quality of sleep experienced following a treatment. If this sounds like something that may be of benefit, but you need to keep your wits about you during the day, an evening treatment might be a good idea. My last booking time is 8pm.
You can visit my treatment room in central Olhao, two minutes from the sea front, in between the main square and Pingo Doce. It is a very quiet and relaxing environment (|I don't speak during treatments). Or if you prefer I can visit you at your location.
Duration: If you add a face or calf massage you will be with me for 1½ hours, for the standard reflexology treatment 1¼.
Frequency: To address a specific condition, an initial course of 6 treatments is the standard recommendation. Longstanding clients tend to book on a monthly or fortnightly basis. Click Here to book your appointment.
“Restored, Recuperated, Rehabilitated, Relaxed....these are the results of a reflexology session with John. Since starting these treatments, my energy has intensified, sleep problems cured and several foot disorders improved. John delivers a calm and gentle foot treatment with soothing music in a very comfortable massage chair, that delivers real health results. It is a mobile service which is ideal as one can relax at home immediately after. Do yourself a favour and book a session, at least once a month, but preferably bi-monthly. I can’t recommend this enough!!
My name is John Bromwich. I qualified as a reflexologist three years ago, after completing an ITEC-accredited course at the Holcot Academy in Northamptonshire. After the Royal Navy, I worked in London, primarily in the financial sector. I was a long term recipient of reflexology before becoming a practitioner.
The treatment with John was the best reflexology treatment I have experienced. My first session was extremely relaxing and sent me into a mild slumber state and I had the best night's sleep in a long time after suffering from a long period of insomnia. I returned for a second great treatment on my last visit and am looking forward to regular visits to see John when I’m in Olhão.

What is reflexology
Reflexology is a non-invasive complimentary therapy based on the theory that if there is an imbalance anywhere in the body, there will be a corresponding 'reflex' in the feet (and hands). A specific type of massage is then applied, to release the blockage, which in turn, supports the body in regulating and healing itself.
This balancing of the body (homeostasis to use its correct name), promotes better functioning of the body's systems such as immunity, circulation, digestion, elimination and reproduction.
Reflexology is recommended by an increasing number or medical professionals, as a compliment to conventional methods of treatment. It does not claim to cure and practitioners will not diagnose or prescribe.
